Reality Based

Andrew Sullivan this morning scolds blogger Jules Crittenden for suffering from "a mindset that is not interested in learning from its own mistakes."

Along the way, Sullivan refers to Jules as my brother-in-law.

Although I could not be fonder of Jules if he actually were my brother-in-law, in fact he is my wife's cousin, a biographical fact mentioned by Jules in for example this blogpost here and this one here, by me here and here, and elsewhere on the Internet in at least three dozen places pulled up in a 30 second Google search.

I trust that there may yet come some future day when Andrew's passionate commitment to empiricism - and his zeal to "learn from his own mistakes" - will lead him to begin doing some research before he writes. Or perhaps some fact-checking afterward.

Anyway, the underlying Jules Crittenden post is terrific and worth a read. You can find it here. And here's a handy link to a Crittenden genealogical site, for those who share Andrew's fascination with my extended family tree.
